Final Cut Pro Rendering

After cutting up the video footage, i had to start cutting up the footage using the 'razor tool' .

I browsed through all of the footage and picked out the best.

When i had completed this task i then rendered off each video clip individually and exported these files as AVI video clips.

I then completed this for all of the video cluips i had cut up.
The next step was to bring all of the clips into Adobe After Effects and start to edit.

Gathering and Editing of High Resolution Images to be used for Top 10 Cars

After researching other top 10 Car poles in a previous blog, we have come up with our Top 10 cars of the year. The cars we have selected are a combination of our own opinions and the research we carried out. Our applictaion will include images of the cars alongside a basic statistic box containing information about each car. The cars we are going to use are: Audi R8, Jaguar XK, Ford Mondeo, Lamborghini Gallardo, BMW M3, Mercedez C-Class, Audi TT, Range Rover Sport, Alfa Romeo Brera and the Renault Sport Clio.

I have searched the web and found 3 good quality images of each car. I have now begun to cut round the images in photoshop to remove the background. I did this using the pen tool, lasso tool and magic wand tool. There is a screenshot below of an Audi R8 that i am in the process of cutting out.
Once all the images are cut out of their backgrounds, i will then take them into flash and begin to build the Top 10 Cars page.

Filming

Myself and Mark went out filming for a couple of days to gather footage for the promotional video.

We firstly filmed my car on a quiet street, we tried a few different angles and pans. Also we got footage of gear changes and the rev counter. (This footage looked ok but it we could only use certain parts and needed some different footage)

We both agreed that this footage was ok but had an idea of going to the local Ferrari and Aston Martin garages to get some high quality pans of top cars.

We firstly went to the receptionist of the Ferrari garage and asked for permission to film in there showroom. The kind receptionist then phoned the managing director and asked if was alright for us to record some video footage, he said it was absolutely fine as long as we were chauffeured around the showroom.

We then took some quality pans of Ferrari's and Aston Martin's to use in our promotional video.
After filming the footage we came back into University and transfer the footage through Premier Pro via data capture.

Here are a couple of screenshots showing some of the footage...
We gathered together lots of pan shots similar to the one shown here.

We also gathered lots of interior shots as well such as this one below...

It is now time to edit the footage and cut up the best parts.

Development of the 360 degree view of car

I have begun to model the car we are going to use in 3D Studio Max. The car is a Nissan 350Z and is the same car we will use for the car modification section.

The first thing i did was to add relevant lighting to the car allowing a consistent effect as the user navigates round. This is shown through a screenshot below.

The next thing i did was draw a circular path around the car using the splines tool.

I then added a target camera and assigned it to follow the path using a controlling restraint.

Using the Swift 3D Max plugin i then rendered the animation as an .swf file ready to be imported into flash.
